Filming has begun on Falling, the new Channel 4 drama written by Adolescence co-creator Jack Thorne starring Keeley Hawes (Miss Austen) and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You).
The drama, which will be directed by Peter Hoar, follows nun Anna (Hawes) and priest David (Essiedu) as they fall in love. Their romance is as true as it is unexpected, and the two quickly find themselves trying to balance it with their commitments to the community, and to God.
Also making appearances are Jason Watkins (The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies), Adrian Scarborough (Gavin & Stacey) and Susan Brown (Mr Bates vs The Post Office). Newcomers Holly Rhys and Shayde Sinclair round out the cast.
“I’m thrilled to be taking on the role of Anna and so looking forward to working alongside the brilliant Paapa Essiedu to bring Jack Thorne’s beautiful scripts to life,” said Hawes.
“Falling is a story that has Jack Thorne’s singular talent of mining the sublime out of the ordinary running all the way through,” said Essiedu. “I can’t wait to work with Keeley, Peter and the rest of the team to bring this world to life.”
Channel 4 will reveal transmission details for Falling in due course.
