Ellie Goldstein is joining the cast of Malory Towers, the BBC’s Enid Blyton adaptation.
In the sixth series, airing now on CBBC, Goldstein will enter the eponymous all-girls’ boarding school as a lively new student. In the words of Goldstein, Nancy is “a history obsessive, she loves lacrosse and she loves to play pranks,” but she is also “a loyal, honest and true friend.”
She’ll fit right in with Darrell Rivers (Ella Bright) and her friends, whose adventures so far have included plenty of pranks and lacrosse games.
Having said that, Nancy arrives at Malory Towers with her guardian. A welcome return for fans but perhaps less so for the fictional girls, this guardian is their previous scary Matron (Ashley McGuire).
Goldstein made history as the first model with Down’s syndrome to make the cover of Vogue. In an interview with the BBC, she said: “people should not be hidden in boxes, they need to be seen.”
Set in post-War Britain, Malory Towers was filmed in studio in Bristol and on location at Hartland Abbey in North Devon and other locations along the Cornish coast.
Rachel Flowerday and Sasha Hails adapted Malory Towers for TV, and episode eight, in which Goldstein first appears, is written by Billie Collins.
Anita Burgess, Executive Producer for BBC Children’s, says: “Malory Towers continues to be a cherished part of our children’s programming, offering timeless stories of friendship, resilience and adventure. It’s a joy to see how each new season brings fresh energy while staying true to the spirit of Enid Blyton’s beloved books.”
Malory Towers is now streaming on BBC iPlayer, with new episodes released every Monday. Ellie Goldstein will make her first appearance in episode 8 on Monday 30 June. You can also watch new episodes on CBBC every Monday and Tuesday at 6.00pm.
