Warner Bros. has confirmed the casting for Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley in the upcoming HBO adaptation of the beloved book series.

Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry, while Ron will be played by Alastair Stout and Hermione by Arabella Stanton. The trio are relative newcomers, with this being Stout’s first major role. Stanton has previously starred as Matilda in Matilda: The Musical on the West End, while McLaughlin has appeared in Grow, an upcoming Sky comedy series.

“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said director and executive producer Mark Mylod and showrunner Francesca Gardiner.

“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It's been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”

The three will be joined by John Lithgow (Conclave) as headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You) as potions professor Severus Snape and Janet McTeer (Ozark) as transfiguration expert Minerva McGonagall. Nick Frost (Hot Fuzz) will also appear as Hogwart’s gamekeeper and groundkeeper, Rubeus Hagrid, as well as Paul Whitehouse (Harry & Paul) as caretaker Argus Filch and Luke Thallon (Patriots on the West End and Broadway) as Quirinus Quirrell.
