Netflix has released a trailer for The Eternaut, a new sci-fi series based on the 1957 Argentinian graphic novel of the same name.
Residents of Buenos Aires are surprised to spot snow falling from the sky one summer night. The next morning, millions are dead.
The snow kills anyone it touches, forcing the survivors to band together in a desperate attempt to stay alive. Juan Salvo (Ricardo Darín, The Secret in Their Eyes) and his friends quickly learn that the snow was just the beginning. An alien army is getting ready to invade a decimated Earth.
Rounding out the cast are Carla Peterson, César Troncoso, Andrea Pietra, Ariel Staltari, Marcelo Subiotto, Claudio Martínez Bel, Orianna Cárdenas and Mora Fisz.
The graphic novel was written by Héctor G. Oesterheld and illustrated by Francisco Solano López. Oesterheld was a major figure in Argentine comics, prior to being abducted by the country’s military junta in 1977. One of ‘los desaparecidos’, or ‘the disappeared’, he is presumed dead, along with three of his four daughters. The fourth is known to have died during a botched kidnapping.
Martín M. Oesterheld, grandson of Héctor, acts as a creative consultant on the series.
The Eternaut streams on Netflix from 30 April.
