The BBC has revealed casting for new drama Two Weeks in August, written and created by Catherine Shepherd.
Jessica Raine (An Adventure in Space and Time) stars as Zoe, a woman who desperately needs a break, but finds anything but relaxation on holiday.
The eight-part series sees her decamp to Greece with family and friends. Things start to go downhill with a kiss, and before long, Zoe finds herself acting on all the desires she once kept hidden.
Damien Molony (Bergerac) plays Zoe’s husband Dan and Nicholas Pinnock (For Life) appears as Solomon, an old friend who’s recently married Jess, played by Antonia Thomas (Lovesick). Nat and Jacob, friends from university, are played by Leila Farzad (Kaos) and Hugh Skinner (Fleabag). Meanwhile, Zoe and Dan’s children, Eve and Theo, will be played by Eliza and Anthony Lambon.
In the show, the group learn they’re trapped on the island, and end up staring death in the face. To quote “Mr. Brightside”, it started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?
“Catherine’s scripts reeled me in from the first page. Epic and nuanced. Funny and tragic,” said Raine. “I’m honoured to be playing Zoe in this simply brilliant story.”
“You might not want to find yourselves on holiday with this group of characters, but watching their reunion unfold across eight sun-soaked episodes will be irresistible,” teased director of BBC Drama Lindsay Salt.
