EVENT SOLD OUT!

Do you want to be a researcher, assistant producer or director but have no idea where to begin with cameras? Join our panel of experts hosted by Matt Bennet, Exectuive Producer/ Series Producer of The Island with Bear Grylls, Ross Kemp Extreme World and Who Do You Think You Are? - to learn valuable skills that will set you up for the rest of your career.

Whatever your career ambition, whether you relish the idea of picking up a camera or if it fills you with fear, self shooting is here to stay.

It has become an essential part of the job description of Researchers, Assistant Producers and Directors and knowing how to operate and shoot can help you stand out from the competition. Yet the opportunities to learn these skills are few and far between unless you have access to a spare XF305, a director with time on their hands and a free couple of hours.

RTS Futures is here to help. We are offering our members the most amazing opportunity to get hands-on experience in our shooting workshop. Learn the basics of setting up a camera, hear from self shooting experts with tips and tricks and gain confidence to operate a camera. Whether you are destined for a career in journalism, development or production, this is an unmissable evening for anyone wanting to get ahead in the industry.

The event will be hosted by Matt Bennett - Executive Producer/Series Producer. Matt's credits include The Island with Bear Grylls, Ross Kemp Extreme World, Who Do You Think You Are? and Joanna Lumley's Nile.

Matt will be finding out from our panel of Shooting Stars how they got their first shooting break, we'll be asking if training is key or whether experience on the job is enough. We'll also be getting the lowdown on how to climb up the ladder and what it takes to get that highly coveted shooting PD role.

For anyone interested in self shooting, this is an event not to be missed. Please email Callum@rts.org.uk any questions you have for our Shooting Stars panel beforehand.

Pro Motion is a Broadcast Solutions provider offering equipment hire, technical crew and training. At the RTS Futures Shooting Stars event, they will be providing training and advice on basic camera skills using the Canon XF305. The Canon XF305 is a BBC accepted HD broadcast camcorder which has become one of the industry standards for outside broadcast documentary, reality and factual entertainment programming. This is due to its intuitive, easy to use interface providing both new & seasoned self shooters a reliable tool to film with.

On the evening, Pro Motion's trained technicians will give you a quick overview of the camera and the basic information you need to get yourself started –

  • How to set up the camera (batteries etc) and tripod.
  • How to set the white balance (to match the lighting)
  • Lens interface – framing (zoom), exposure (iris) and focus
  • Preparing your media and getting ready to record

There are restricted numbers for this event so book early to avoid disappointment.

A complimentary drink and nibbles will be provided.

If you have any accessibility requirements, please inform us upon booking so that we can assist you with the procedure for your entrance and exit from the venue.
